Paul has extensive experience in applied research for rural development and consultancy. His skills include: Food security and livelihood analysis, developing poverty reduction strategies, Sustainable rural development, Crop production (includes: rice, sorghum, pearl millet, beans, groundnut, soy, cowpeas, and cassava), Agroforestry and community-based natural resource management, Participatory technology development and dissemination, Nutrition, HIV/AIDS, Gender, Pro-poor agricultural research and extension, Small scale irrigation management, Project management, planning and evaluation; Needs and impact assessments, and M&E, Design and implementation of sustainable agricultural programmes, Institutional analysis, Policy analysis. Paul has substantial field experience in Zimbabwe, Malawi, Zambia and Mozambique; Short-term missions in Kenya, Botswana and other SADC countries. Paul has a PhD (Interdisciplinary Ecology) with a concentration in Food and Resource Economics from the University of Florida, USA and Master of Science degree in Rural Development from Edinburgh University, Scotland.
